Pankaj Sarin, M.D./M.S.
Pankaj Sarin graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Biology. He then attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine for his M.D. degree and completed residency in Anesthesiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He also received a Master's degree in Biomedical Informatics from the Health Sciences & Technology (HST) program at Harvard-MIT. He is currently the Director of Medical Informations for the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at BWH.
Current Projects
- Development and implementation of the BWH Perioperative Information Management System (PIMS). PIMS is a collaboration between the Departments of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Nursing, and Surgery and BWH Information Systems and aims to implement an electronic medical record that spans preoperative assessment of patients undergoing surgery, automated chart recording intraoperatively, and postoperative recovery room documentation. Dr. Sarin is the clinical lead for the project.
- Development of Integrated Clinical Education (ICE), a system that integrates resident education into clinical workflow.
Recent Projects
- Study on how physicians change their practice behavior in response to electronic feedback.
- Creation of risk prediction models for anesthesia related outcomes, such as Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) and postoperative pain.
- Creation of the Anesthesia Online Research and Training Aid (AORTA), an anesthesia specific search engine.
